Poor chap

I cannot help but feel sorry for Adrian Bailey, the Labour MP for West Bromwich East, who is described in The Times Guide to the House of Commons 2010 as: ‘Unimpressive backbencher. Dull, even by the standards of librarians.’

Reflecting how varied MPs are, this is the entry for another MP:

‘A motorbike-loving sometime naturist (who sued a Sunday tabloid for publishing his naked holiday snaps), as environment minister he scoffed at global warming fears’.

Any suggestions as to who it is?

I cannot help but wonder what some of the entries would be like if there was a Times Guide to the House of Lords.

    Sammy Wilson

As to the Lords I have no doubt the Lords’ tea room provides much the same level of analysis!

  2. Lord Norton says:

Croft: Well done. It is indeed Sammy Wilson, the Democratic Unionist MP for Antrim East.

I like to think that in the Lords’ tea room – certainly in the Bishop’s Bar (or at the least non-bar part) – we operate on a somewhat higher plane. More intellectual….

    Lord Norton,
It seems I am back to real comments despite still not even bothering to trust the email alerts and being destined to leaving even a few select conversations out in the cold. Enough of introductions, this is surely not the Times but if you are curious as to how you are defined and identified at somewhat greater length go to the alphabetical position for Lord Norton on this page: http://franksummers3ba.wordpress.com/acadian-forum-archive/glossary-of-terms-casually-defined/

By the way my blog here turns one year old tomorrow — almost out of nappies!

  4. Paul says:

Adrian is the MP for West Bromwich West

    • Lord Norton says:

Paul: Whoops. Well spotted (though it would be remarkable if you didn’t spot it). I’m so used to referring to West Bromwich East that it tripped off the keyboard. The description could hardly be said to apply to the Member for West Bromwich East…

      • I’d be interested to know what the Times Guide says about the MP for West Bromwich East. Can Paul give us clarification as to the accuracy of the comment? 🙂

      • Lord Norton says:

Rocky Lorusso: I think the words chalk and cheese come to mind: ‘Political enforcer for Gordon Brown, led failed coup against Tony Blair… Web-savvy blogger.’ And I remember teaching him.
