Find the wittiest caption…

As it is the summer, I thought I would offer another caption competition in order to keep readers’ minds alert.  On the right is a photograph of Dr Matt Beech, director of the Centre for British Politics at Hull University, Professor Arthur Aughey, of Ulster University, and yours truly.  It was taken when Professor Aughey was in Hull to deliver this year’s Norton Lecture in the Centre for British Politics.

The reader to come up with the wittiest caption will be the winner and will receive the kudos of winning – and possibly a prize.

Anyone suggesting ‘the good, the bad, and the ugly’ will be disqualified.

  1. Ashley Roden-Bow says:

Perhaps the first time Lord Norton can be described as being left of centre.

  2. sheldon Howcroft says:

Hull’s latest “Boy Band” gather for a practice before facing the judges for the new series of “Britains got Talent”

  3. ladytizzy says:

Avoiding the post-ironical “Three men went into a bar…”, I’m going for:

Prof AA to Dr B: I told you to go to hell…
    Prof Lord N: Smile, everyone!

    • Lord Norton says:

ladytizzy: A Southerner, an Ulsterman and a Yellow Belly went into a bar… It would have to be a cafe anyway: I don’t drink and a cafe would have food for Dr Beech.

  4. Frank W. Summers III says:

This excellent new CD by the surpising group Hullabaloo includes new hit songs:
“My Suite at Lords”, “Westminster’s not a Cathedral” and “Tracks by My Peers”. New lyrics and arrangements for “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Respect” are also smashing!”

    • Lord Norton says:

Frank W. Summers III: I am not sure we qualify as a boy band.

      • Frank W. Summers III says:

        Lord Norton,
The Three Tenors had albums too. If you and I were together I would be the Pavarotti by dint of girth but amid your lagely slim to moderate sized companions it is not an obvious reference so I forgive you for overlooking these distinguished mature professional intellectuals in the pool of possible comparisons. The Beattles, BGs, and that like sometimes drop the “boy” as well I believe….

  5. Alice Stretch says:

Have you heard of the rock band of MPs? Wittily naming themselves ‘MP4’
