A leading political commentator? Moi?

IMG_9947_275_183I am not used to appearing in lists of people who are the leading figures in this or that field.  I think one can safely assume I am not going to be a candidate for anything to do with money, fashion, lifestyle, music, sport and, well, anything outside politics.  In 2007 I did appear in the Daily Telegraph’s list of the top 100 most influential people on the right in British politics.  That was it.  I never appeared in it again.

I was pleasantly surprised on Tuesday to find myself in The Social Election’s list of the top 100 political commentators on social media.  You can read the list here.   Based on Klout scores, I came in at number 71.  What struck me, apart from the very fact that I am in the list, is that I am the only academic.  I also come ahead of a number of leading political journalists.

I appear to be doing something right.  If I find out what it is, I will let you know…

    Nice. Well done.

“In 2007 I did appear in the Daily Telegraph’s list of the top 100 most influential people on the right in British politics. That was it. I never appeared in it again.”
It is so easy to mistake fame for influence. Surely many of the most influential people might never be publicly named? Punch would never have hit Judy without encouragement.

    “I am the only academic”
Sad perhaps, but a comment on the times.

“I also come ahead of a number of leading political journalists.”
It would have to be scary to come after them, I mean, who can trust journalists?
